20.02.2009 - Security Training at Dubai International Airport

Approximately 37 million passengers currently and a planned expansion of 60 million passengers: The Dubai International Airport with its new Terminal 3 that opened in October 2008 is included in the list of most modern airports in the world. The E-Learning solutions of STI Security Training International (STI) are employed to ensure that the passenger controls work smoothly and efficiently.

For the training and recurrent training of airport screeners, the Dubai Police entered into a comprehensive security training partnership with STI.

In cooperation with Smiths Detection, leading manufacturer of security technology, STI offers e-learning systems for the training of X-ray screeners to accurately recognise and interpret security threats. To date, more than 600 students have successfully passed the training programme to become certified screeners for the new Terminal 3 at Dubai International Airport.

An essential element of the security training partnership with the Dubai Police is "OTS avsec", a software product specifically developed by STI for the aviation security industry and in use at some of the world’s largest airports including Frankfurt, Madrid, Singapore and Sydney. Especially for use at the Dubai Aviation Security (AvSec) Center, STI introduced an Arabic version of OTS avsec to enhance its existing product line up. "We are very happy to be a part of developments in the Middle East through our partnership with the Dubai Police and delighted to be able to make such a significant contribution to the needs of the region with our software" said STI Managing Director Wolfgang Glassner.

A unique characteristic of "OTS avsec" is the IQS technology allowing students to analyse X-ray images with the simulator in the same quality as X-ray images on the actual Smiths-Heimann X-ray equipment. The students are thereby able to effectively learn how to apply the different image analysing functions to evaluate complex images efficiently.

Besides the passenger screeners of the Dubai Police, the Dubai AvSec Center can book training courses for screeners of other airports as well as third-party aviation security screener service providers. The STI training courses offered are GCAA, UAE certified.

Sealed partnership: The Agreement was signed by STI Managing Director Wolfgang Glassner, Dubai Police Commander-in-Chief, Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim and Smiths-Heimann Managing Director Hans Zirwes.
