Battelle, the world’s largest independent, non-profit R&D organization, located in Columbus Ohio, USA, and STI Security Training International GmbH, a well-known security training company, located in Wiesbaden, Germany, have signed a representation agreement to bring CT/3D computer-based-training (CBT) and IED Recognition training to the aviation industry.

About Battelle:

Battelle has developed ProDetect™ Security Screener Training, an interactive, CT/3D X-ray training system for aviation security screeners, using the latest X-ray Computed Tomography (CT) security screening technologies. ProDetect combines Battelle’s human factors and X-ray technology competency, deep understanding of explosives and IEDs, in-depth understanding of air security operations and protocols, and state of the art computer software and internet technology expertise to create the most advanced training available for aviation security personnel conducting screening for cabin and hold baggage, as well as cargo.

For more than 20 years, Battelle has provided aviation security research and technical services to the US Department of Homeland Security, the Transportation Security Administration, the Federal Aviation Administration and the international civil aviation community. The ProDetect training system represents the state-of-the-art in dynamic, interactive, computer-based training to match the dynamic challenges posed by terrorism and evolving explosive threats.

About STI:

STI, with its company own OTS® (Operator Training Software), is currently the market leader in the field of classical 2D X-ray image interpretation training with running OTS installations in over 90 countries around the globe. The OTS training software is available with different theoretical Tutorials as well as practical X-ray simulators both for initial as well as recurrent training in the fields of cabin baggage screening, hold baggage screening, staff and goods screening, air cargo screening as well as mail screening. All offered X-ray simulators within the OTS training software feature the original graphical user interface, image scheme and image enhancement functions of the main X-ray vendors on the market thus guaranteeing an authentic and most effective X-ray image interpretation training.

Battelle and STI will engage in a collaborative effort to offer Battelle´s ProDetect CT/3D training software and IED Recognition training software to the market to address the need for CT/3D image interpretation training as more and more modern CT units are being introduced to the market for both checkpoint (CBS) as well as for hold baggage (HBS) operations. Currently, no such CT/3D training software is available on the market which means Screeners still analyze 3D images based on classical 2D image material, even though the CT/3D image offers much more information.

Beginning now, Battelle and STI will offer both training solutions, STI´s OTS for classical 2D image interpretation and Battelle´s ProDetect for modern CT/3D image interpretation training, to its customers in order to increase the overall detection ability in both 2D and CT/3D applications.
